“Did you know that Essaouira town is regularly used as a movie set? Can you guess which movie this scene was being set up for ?”
Is Villa Kahina really All Inclusive?
In the traditional sense, this is not an all inclusive holiday. There’s no nightly entertainment. There’s no buffets for breakfast, lunch & dinner. There’s nobody to serve you drinks while you lounge on the beach.
All that said, there are NO sun lounger wars, queues for omelettes at breakfast, juggling plates at the buffet, running off with the kids to the toilet part way through your own meal and no suitcases full of laundry when you get home. That for me was the icing on the cake.
PLUS you get so much more than you would at an all inclusive resort. You get the privacy you would struggle to find at a resort. You get to have meals when you want them. You get to set your own menu & have it made for you. You get to have that home away from home experience, with out paying the earth for it.
The beach is a short drive away or a 30 min walk. It’s an unspoilt beach. There are no sun loungers & you literally have to climb over sand dunes to get to it. But it is truly breathtaking when you get there, with the amazing view over the Atlantic Ocean.
TOP TIP : Why not take along a picnic & some beach towels ? With hardly anyone around, it was like having a whole beach to ourselves.
Villa Kahina is set in the grounds of the Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa golf course. I don’t know anything about golf but it looked amazing. The views from the terrace were breathtaking. The villa had one side which had views onto the golf course but was still quite private. Someone would literally have to come really close to see in. There are staff who come to clean the pool but you can tell them to come first thing, so you have no unexpected visitors.
We could use the Sofitel facilities like their pool but we loved ours’ so much we didn’t bother. The kids did enjoy playing football at the kids club though. You can leave the kids in there at an extra cost of 10 Euros for half day.
Lots of things to do like camel, horse, bike rides or quad biking with Explora Watersports or a family day out with Berberlands Essaouira or celebrity spotting (there’s always one in town when we go) . More info on what to do in Essaouira in my destination guide>
Food is relatively cheap. There are lots of places to eat in town. Some even deliver to the house. But the house keeper Samira literally made what we wanted from Tajine to Spaghetti, chocolate cake to avocado salad. Breakfast with fresh orange juice on the outdoor terrace, freshly made eggs with msemen (Moroccan version of parathas) or French toast. She even made hot chocolate for the kids & Indian tea for my hubby.
Preparation of breakfast is included in the villa hire but not the cost of food. You can pay extra for the preparation of dinner or lunch and Samira will buy everything needed for the meal. I think we paid about £25 extra a day for food and preparation for all of us.
The rooms are proper luxurious. Lovely comfy duvets, plush linen, amazing wall art & ceramics, walk-in showers etc.
We took a video of Villa Kahina when we arrived. It’s not a professional video. You can literally spot our suitcases at the beginning. But every time I watch it, I smile. You can watch the video on YouTube>
I asked one of the twins, what did like most about staying at Villa Kahina? He replied, ” I liked so many things. I don’t know what to choose.”

How much does a Luxury Villa Stay cost ?
We spent around £600 in total for transfers & all food & drink, taxis, extra meal preparation etc. The villa costs £1600 for the week including 3 hrs of cleaning & making breakfast. Peak periods costs will vary. Based on all 6 of us sharing, the villa stay worked out at £366 per person for a week. Not bad for all that luxury.

If you want a villa with complete privacy from the outside world, then are other villas in Essaouira which might be better suited. There are also villas that can accommodate more people or even less people. We booked via an estate agent in Essaouira, with expert local knowledge. Gregory from the agency gave us a full induction to the property & facilities when we arrived, and was available through out our stay. For enquiries, you can email Irina, who is super helpful. Her email address is firstname.lastname@example.org She speaks perfect English & the team is super helpful (even with someone with 101 questions like me)
When I go back, I would hire a car & not forget my driving licence this time. We got taxis but it would make life easier & I think we could manage driving on the wrong side of the road, because the town really isn’t as busy.
The only other things you’d need for a stay at Villa Kahina, are your shampoos, shower gels, conditioner & body lotions. Everything else is provided for such as bedding, towels & toilet paper. You’ll find these are often not available at other self-catering properties, you might find elsewehere.
All credit to Samira, who despite not speaking a word of English, successfully communicated with us with the help of Google translate & a lot of patience.
One last thing, security is really top. There are no random people around. They check who’s coming in & out. Given that members of the Royal family were supposed to be checking in after us, this didn’t come as any surprise.
